Executive Director
Doug Adair joined the Alabama Wildlife Center as Executive Director on July 1, 2013. Doug came to the Center from the private practice of law. He is a Birmingham native with more than 25 years of experience in management, public affairs, media relations, and governmental affairs. Doug also has extensive experience working with Alabama nonprofit organizations. "I believe the rehabilitation and education programs of the Alabama Wildlife Center are vital to increasing awareness and appreciation of our unique natural resources, and protecting and preserving Alabama’s native bird population for future generations. It is incredibly rewarding to work with such a talented and dedicated group of volunteers and staff to accomplish these critical goals."
Scottie Jackson
Director of Education and Outreach
Scottie became the Director of Education and Outreach of the Alabama Wildlife Center on September 1, 2014. She began volunteering at AWC in 2007 and subsequently held the positions of songbird intern, part-time clinic staff, and full-time wildlife rehabilitator. Scottie earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and her master’s degree in environmental management from Samford University. She has also worked as a raptor trainer and biological consultant. “The Alabama Wildlife Center has always held a special place in my heart, and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work for an organization that shares my passion for Alabama’s native birds. I am excited to further AWC’s dual mission of avian rehabilitation and conservation education and to play a part in fostering a greater appreciation for our avian species.”
Katie Stubblefield Clinic Manager
Katie has a BA in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama and also spent several years in restaurant management. She then spent time studying molecular biology and conducted research in reptile and amphibian digestion and metabolism. Once hooked as a volunteer at AWC, she spent a summer as our Baby Songbird Intern, stayed on as Avian Intern, and is now a full-time rehabilitation clinic staff member. “I’m excited about helping AWC to further refine protocols for care, develop our ability to conduct our own lab work, and doing some research and publishing articles.”
Janet Byars
Administrative Assistant
Janet joined the AWC staff part-time in 1997 to manage member services, including AWC’s database. Her responsibilities have since transitioned into a full-time position that includes a wide range of administrative support functions. “I love animals and although I don’t work directly with the wildlife that we help at AWC, I’m proud to have had a supporting role in helping more than 40,000 animals since I started working here.”
